Downloaded the FFXIV benchmark yesterday afternoon. I think I’ve watched it about 50 times already.. lol! New computer didn’t score as high as I had hoped, seeing as I thought I had done a pretty decent job picking it out and upgrading the video card, but it scored high enough to rate at the higher end of “[2500-2999] Standard Performance Capable of running the game on default settings”, on Low Resolution. Honestly even on Low resolution I’m so in awe of the graphics, They are beautiful, so I’m good with that. At least its alleviated some stress because assuming its correct, I should at least be able to play. I was starting to think I was going to have to buy a PS3.
The benchmark program did however clear up a few things for me. I’ve been looking up information on Lalafell’s for as long as there has been information to look up. I’m a planner, and have been trying to weigh what I know to help me narrow down what my final character will be. I do adore the Lalafell, so it will be that at the very least, so now its up to deciding what clan. On the Official FFXIV website It talks about the Plainsfolk having “long pointy ears that are said to be able to detect the faintest scampering of the prairie’s various fauna” In the pictures on the official site, it is evident that the Plainsfolk’s ears are bigger and more pronounced than the Dunesfolk. (I’m curious if that will translate them into being more aware of enemy’s sneaking up on you.)
On the official site, it had described the Dunesfolk as having “Luminous eyes…. as a result of a glossy protective layer which covers the pupil” (wonder if it means they are more difficult to “blind”…) Originally I was kind of at a loss for what that actually meant as far as how my character would differ.
The pictures on the official website were kind of little, and going back now I guess I do notice a bit of a difference. In all honesty, I totally missed noticing any real difference between the two clans until I played the benchmark program. Its completely obvious now…. The first picture is of a Dunesfolk.. The second is of a Plainsfolk. The Dunesfolk have a more manga style (if thats the correct term) eye I think. No defined pupil, where the Plainsfolk have a definite segregation of the pupil and iris.
Both pretty cute.. although I’m feeling a little more pull towards the Dunesfolk at the moment. In the end I will suppose it will be determined by whichever combination feels like a good fit during character creation. Whichever combination, In my eyes… embodies my imagination for this new character. Simply can’t wait!
The new combat video was very cool.. No complaints on speed there.. and may even inspire me to pick up a gladiator’s sword.. at some point. hehe 🙂 I’m pretty sure Conjurer, Botanist, Alchemist, Thaumaturge are my first explorations, but Gladiator may make it in the list as well.. always good to have a fighter/melee too.. It was a little hard for me in FFXI because until Puppetmaster & Dancer came around, I really didn’t enjoy any of front line classes, which made soloing kinda hard.
I was delighted to hear from the Interview with SE by FFXIcore.com, that they already have ideas for lots more classes.
Q. About how many classes do you plan on releasing in this game?A. We will be introducing more classes even after the launch of the game, so it will be continuously increasing. It will depend on how development goes and how the users react to see how far we go. We already have tens of thousands and we should be able to impliment them at any time.
Also was glad to hear that Linkshells would be making a return, and that there will be a higher level grouping called a Company which sounds intriguing.
For your enjoyment, here is the New E-3 Trailer I think I spied Ifrit, Shiva, and a few others.
