2 months from today is when FFXIV’s collector’s edition is released. A short 8 days later, I expect to be having my first adventures in Eorzea on a final realization of my character. As anxious as I’ve been, it isn’t seeming like that far off now, I can almost taste it, and its still far enough off that I have a little time to hopefully start feeling a little bit better before then.
Appearance wise, across the different games I’ve played, I’ve always tried to keep some similarities between my characters that always tie back to my initial FFXI character as she is the one that started it all for me -wither it be hair style, or hair color or a mixture of both if possible. I’m starting to think that with all the customization it may be fun to totally play with the new options and come up with something new, who knows what I will end up with.. time will only tell. I can’t wait to introduce her!
Growth and flexibility seem to be the name of the game this time around. I’m very interested in the idea of taking building block skills from different classes and coming up with my own implementation and use for my character. I really hope that mainstream players will recognize this opportunity and stave away the desire to maintain elitist cookie cutter builds. I realize that guides and cookie cutter suggestions will run rampant right after release (as that is what everyone is used to). What I’m really hoping will happen is that after a little bit, people will disregard them and explore what possibilities there are. This set-up is filled with many more options than just having a sub job. With the ability to tap into and equip so many different skills from different classes, the possibilities are endless, and I hope people will choose not limit themselves. To me the whole idea makes your character seem a bit more realistic. In real life there are many hats we wear. At work, we don’t lose the skills we have learned from other aspects of our lives.. we often use our knowledge on other subjects learned to help us make what we are working on better. Build the resources and then use them to best fit your style. Sounds fun to me.. 🙂
