So part of the joy of both FFXI, and FFXIV for me has always been making small goals, then reaching them. Some of the goals really prove to assist my character and are really important, and some are smaller seemingly unimportant individual goals, but I enjoy them none-the-less. 🙂
I reached one of those small individual goals last night, and despite it not really doing much, it made me happy.. lol.
I spent a good chunk of the last two days deciding I really wanted a Hempen Doublet (Grey).
The initial thought was because apparently and surprisingly to me, I am really enjoying weaving and crafting aspect of this game far more than I had anticipated. The Hempen Doublet has Craftmanship + 5, so that might be a little helpful. 🙂 Secondly came the thought of actually matching… hehe. I have a Hunting Hat (Grey) that Blindrage made me a while back, and I had made myself a pair of Hempen Chausses (Grey). So it seemed natural to lean towards the grey one, and you don’t see them that often so far. A week ago I had bought an undyed version of the Hempen doublet for super cheap off somoene, but I still had that gnawing desire to #1 wear one I created myself, and #2 for it to be grey in color.
I couldn’t seem to luck out in finding the taupe scale bugs needed for making the leather dye myself, so I begrudgingly dragged myself back to the market wards, this time in Ul’dah. I had kind of avoided those places like the plauge for reasons everyone knows. (On a side note I’m really happy about the changes they have planned for the wards and the game in general!)
I had seen a couple of posts on http://ffxiv.yg.com/ of some people advertising that their Retainers were actually selling the Taupe Sheep Leather I needed there, so I checked it out. Sadly the first two posts were old and apparently not updated once they sold out.
(Note: I had crafted versions of these pieces with regular sheep leather earlier and tried it, but it did not accept the regular kind to make the pieces I was after. It had to be the taupe version. There apparently is no color mix and match allowed.)
On the third attempt however I found someone who was actually selling it. I promptly bought what I needed and switched to Leather worker in order to create the straps and shoulder straps needed for the synth.
I took the new taupe leather pieces and ran happily back to the weaver’s guild to get some synthesis support. I had spent some decent gil on the materials, so I really didn’t want to fail.
Towards the end I was seriously thinking I was indeed going to fail. It really wasn’t looking good at all! Thankfully I ended up being successful by the skin of my teeth. I seriously only had 2 durability left! Oh my! That was close.. I need to work a bit more I guess. 🙂 Still can’t seem to make Hempen cloth on my own without support.. its rather sad, but I’m determined! I’ll get there! 🙂 Anyway, here I am rejoicing at the realized dream of matching.. hehe!
Grey is spiffy! hehe 😉
Wow! I can’t believe all the revelations that have been made public today at http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com! It’s made me pretty happy!
I don’t consider myself serious enough to have a “fanboy” (or rather “fangirl”) status, but I’ve been realatively at peace with all the uproar about FFXIV completion status. While many have cried and screamed over it many details, I’ve always been of the opinion that things will be worked out over time. If you don’t like, then maybe just wait and pick the game up in a year’s time.. or wait until PS3 comes out.. In my opinion the real core aspects of FFXIV is pretty solid. The flexibility of the classes, the freedom to mix and match has made it worth it to me. These new ideas excite me at their potential, and I’m thrilled to be playing something that isn’t just the run of the mill MMO.
If its too hard or frustrating for people, like the guy over at GameSpot, then thats fine. I honestly really don’t care to spend my relaxation time being surrounded with people who are going to constantly whine that they aren’t hand held the entire way, or complain that there isn’t “End Game” material 3 weeks into official launch. If you can’t tell already, I was kind of put off over the Gamespot review of FFXIV to be honest, I can’t imagined they spent that much time actually playing it themselves, and very little time actually. In their video they talked about the market wards and retainers (which admittantly has issues,) but in the video they showed Hawker’s Alley in Limsa, and interacted with a playable character, not a retainer.
I think if you are going to talk about something, you should show actually what it is you are talking about. Was the guy maybe thinking that the person sitting there was a retainer? Just makes me wonder how much time they actually spent trying to learn, or understand. I imagine there was an attitude before they ever started playing. I think its unrealistic to assume that an MMO could be polished and perfected at launch when it is such a different animal than the regular console game that they obviously prefer. To judge it on the same perimeters is kind of dumb, but then I am an oddity whose favorite games, MMO’s and console versions alike, seem to always be rated lower on their list..
Ah well 🙂 I will just continue to enjoy my time on a game they hate, but that I love… To each their own! 😉
