So.. been a little bit since I’ve updated here… (so sorry.. lol)
Here are some things that have been I’ve been up to as of late…
First off, I’m always inventory space poor, so I made a point of spending some time trying to synth some of the items I’ve kept on my retainer for “the future”. Since “the future” now involves even less inventory space I figured it would be wise. This however has thoroughly annoyed my retainer Laurelai, even more than normal. It was one such recent trip to visit her that shed some light on why she maybe always so annoyed at me for interrupting her time off… I think she may have a crush…
I’ve spent some time playing with Atomos and gathering some GC seals… actually I’m not sure If I already mentioned this before now that I think of it…. hmm.. oh well. Anyhow I got a few GC pieces, and while yellow isn’t my favorite color, the outfit is growing on me. All together it is really pretty cute… aww 🙂
Also did a faction leve with Pico Man and Nicos Gilmaster and a few others with the intent of getting some of the old faction leve drops. I ended up getting the Templar’s Haubergeon which looks kind of cool. I paired it with my Militia Armet, and thought it looked kind of cute. 🙂
I’ve also been doing an inordinate amount moogle runs. I’ve now got three weapons. The black mage wand, the mog fists.. and… and… the best of all….
Merikosum Neaman and I actually both ended up getting our bow’s the same night. It was pretty cool!
Other than that, I’ve spent some time helping LS members through Darkhold, Aurum Vale for AF, lots of NM fights for skills and such.
Crazy enough…. after my group beat it a while back, I was fully prepared to fully swear off the quest “United We Stand” and never return. Its crazy what you are willing to do for LS mates though.. lol. This past two weeks I’ve ended up making 4 separate treks out to Castrum Novum to help different LS members with their quest. Twice the groups I helped beat it on the first attempt, the third attempt we won on the second try, The last attempt however we ended up calling it for the night to hopefully try it another night.
To be perfectly honest, I actually now kind of enjoy this fight… hate the trip up there, but really don’t mind the fight because its all about stamina and being strategic. Doing it so often recently, I finally feel comfortable to share an observation.
Regardless of what anyone tells you, this quest is not about having a certain group makeup or certain gear… period… the end. This quest is more about situation and resource management. When I went on my own group, I believe we had a paladin, a war, two bards, two whitemages, a blackmage and a dragoon. None of us in anything very “leet” gearwise, some didn’t even have full AF yet, and to hear people talk, we should not have been able to be successful…. yet we were.
I really hate it when people just decide that there is only one way to do things and won’t hear of any other options. It’s silly to be so closed minded. Truth be told it matters less about having a specific configuration and more about player skill, and how comfortable they are with the class they are playing.. and how well they mesh with the particular group they are going with… I’m convinced of this.
The first and third time this past two weeks that I went out and helped people with this quest, people were really conscious and paying attention of what the goal of the fight was, and we won on the first attempt.
The second time, we needed a little practice and won on the third try.
The last set I went with, we just couldn’t seem to get it together, tried different tactics and configurations and even though at one point we had 4 Warriors, 2 Whitemages, 1 monk , and a Bard.
I have to admit that with that make up I was seriously thinking we weren’t going to be there long, but it didn’t work out that way. That session only further proved in my mind what is actually “required” when doing this quest. Its not cookie cutter teams, Its not totally dependent on having the best gear, what it does require however, is that everyone is able to successfully coordinate efforts, and that they use the skills that they have to the best of their abilities….
Its not a cake walk, you have to work for this quest, and even the best of players, can struggle finishing this quest. Another good point… it really helps to not dc.. like I did here:
