Somewhere on the official forums, I had stumbled upon a picture of Gelsmorra Ruins. It looked so cool, so I really wanted to head out there before it was gone forever. Stationed at the top most of the map in the North Shroud, I set my home point as Treespeak and headed that way. There are two ways to get there, one straight north, and one that veered to the west before turning north. That one though longer seemed the lesser of the two evils. The route is treacherous, and I incurred many deaths, as did Merikosum Neaman and Jynx Mcninja who decided to come along on some of my later attempts at this suicide mission.
Lessons learned, the trip out there is a game of patience and stealth, and knowing when to walk, and when to ride like your life depends on it.. because it does. The drakes aggro to sound, so you can walk right past them, however mingled in the same area are anole raptors as well as high level boars that can one shot you and seem to sight aggro.
I was so happy once we made it out there. It was beautiful! The creatures around the ruins were some waterdogs (efts) and two or three marlboro’s. The marlboros you can give wide berth and be just fine. The waterdog efts are just like the ones elsewhere and are sound aggro.
Further North is a path, that if you get past the drakes, boars, and anole there, you will find some peaceful beastmen. I really love these little guys, they were so cute in FFXI, I was thrilled when it was revealed they’d return in FFXIV. I hope in the next version we get to interact with them a bit more.
I have a few more really neat shots I didn’t get to upload yet.. Maybe I’ll Ninja edit and add them later.
