We’ve had people missing from our regular static runs due to real life obligations. As such, we hadn’t done some of our normal practices. I was really wanting to finally finish out Turn 5, and was kind of missing playing bard, so decided I’d try to run on bard doing some of my own duty finder runs. Earlier this week, I took some time to sit and really pick apart multiple video guides on this fight, and even broke it down into phases to help me better understand.
Friday (5/9/14) and Saturday(5/10/14), practically all day was spent in Duty Finder for it. Oddly enough, for my least successful run took me the longest to get into… 86 minutes in Duty Finder. Sure is hard queuing as a damage role! But while I waited, I spent some time working on another project… finishing my very first atma book. I’m very thankful I had this to work on while I waited for those queues to pop!
So lets talk about that experience real quick before I continue on about turn 5. Since I had been wanting to try and get my bard caught up, and because I didn’t have as much gear for it, and because Accuracy has become so important for future coil runs, I started off by choosing the book that would give my bow +2 accuracy.
Surprisingly enough I really enjoyed working through the book. Not only for the diversion and something to do while I waited, but also because it was nice to have a pretty diverse “To Do List”. I think Square Enix actually did a good job planning the books out. It gave me a chance to find some really cool places with scenery that I actually hadn’t noticed before.
Enemy list to take out, was actually a pretty fun hunting trip. The Elite Roundsman seem to only spawn in one spot in the U’Ghamaro Mines at about X: 24 Y: 7. The trenchtooth sahagin I had to find were in this neat little corner with this altar thing.
Leves: There were three leves I had to do, but as an interesting point, I actually had to go back and finish out my first hunting log, which I ended up doing for both my archer and Grand Company hunting logs (because the site I found didn’t specify which hunting log needed to have rank 1 completed). Then I went back to Whitebrim and had to do a few leves before the one I needed (called: “Someone’s got a big mouth”) would even appear in the list. All good though.. doing those leves gave me extra gil and some ventures. ^^
FATE: Spiteful (I forget the FATE’s name) in the Shroud / “Surprise” in La Noscea / and one in Mor Dhona involving baby marlboros.
Here is me waiting on the “Surprised” FATE….. hoping that the emote would summon the FATE to show up.. lol
It eventually did!
Dungeons: Halatali HM / Aurum Vale / Satasha
All these things were peppered with occasional Turn 5 runs. Generally for the firebombs, its pretty easy to figure out what the plan is. If you notice the Off tank (Sub tank) standing near the pets of the group, then the plan is to run fireballs there. For that tactic people gather in 3 – 1+pets – 3 formation.
Otherwise the groupings tends to be 4 and 3+1 pet (moving any other pets out of the way if needed). The 4 and 4 grouping method seems to be the cleanest to me, mostly because its allows players to continue to dps, instead of running around adjusting, less movement needed from the players because then they only need to move for conflag, and its just as easy for the healers to just use a simple medica II or succor to bring everyones health back up, and go back to focusing on main tank heals.
Here was one with the most unique player formation I saw. Whenever someone would get picked for Fire Bomb, the three closest people would run to them (excluding the main tank).
In another run, I actually saw someone get kicked from a Japanese party which to be honest is something I’ve never seen happen. In that case they had set up the Off Tank (or Sub Tank) with two pets. Despite seeing everyone else running the Fire Bombs there, this dragoon would instead run it to the nearest healer instead of the preset fire bomb soak group and kill them both. Twice he did this despite them mentioning it again what should happen before the next run. By that point even I thought this player was purposely doing it.
By that point I have to be honest that I was starting to feel pretty bad about it, and began to wonder if I’d ever see the end cutscene! On the bright side, all the practice helped I guess and in each failed attempt this weekend, I was still one of the very last, if not the very last one to die.
I took a break.. then queued up once more and got this party. Glamour is a wonderful thing. I only remember a few of their names, which is sad, but one of the tanks was named Fiddle Strings and one of the others was named Kuta Kuta though I don’t remember their job.
That last run was simply amazing. I discovered that honestly Twintania can actually be a fun fight.
We did 4 & 4 grouping for Fire Balls, everyone moved as a solid unit in the same direction for dive bombs, everyone spread out and gave each other rooms for twisters, the Off Tank quickly picked up dreadknaughts and everyone was still very much alive!
Suddenly Twintania’s big red aggro line targeted me and was casting liquid hell! Oh My gosh! I was going to finally see phase 5 of this fight!!
I moved towards the outside of the ring and ran around the very outside while the chain liquid hell was spat at me! The Off tank (Sub tank) was positioned perfectly in the neurolink and eating all the “hatches” while the rest of the team burned her down and ran to deal with the occasional liquid hell. At that point the remaining of the fight was all very simple!
They opened the chests, and out dropped the Allagan trousers of aiming, and the Allagan warrior weapon. I won the bard pants, and then got to enjoy my cutscene! Yay! Will work with our static to get a few of them their wins, so we can move on! So happy that now at some point I can maybe actually take a peak into Turn 6 soon.
I have a few other pictures, but they may be too much of a spoiler, so I’ll wait to post them.
After that run I was able to finish up my last dungeon run as well!
Also: Talked to the NPC in Gridania and I ended up getting the GC shield! ^^
