The week kicked off with the announcement of a Minion Raffle in our FC. Our Gardeners had come up with an Onion Prince, and and Eggplant Knight Minion that was so very cute! We had everyone that wanted to enter, donate 10k to the FC Chest, with only one countable entry per actual player. We had 43 participants! Everyone was given a number in the order that they donated, and we used http://www.random.org to generate the two winners numbers. Mini Ninja livestreamed the picking of the numbers, and we handed out the minions to their winners. It turned out to be a pretty cool thing. If we get anymore of these, we might try to do it again.
Look at our pretty Leviathan fountain!
Tried to take a couple of screenshots of our FC House for a new banner for our website, but it was a little difficult to get a good shot. Ended up having to go to the neighbors and jump on their fence to get these two.
Found a Retainer out in the field! It was the first time I had found one myself. This one kinda reminds me of Jenna’s old character named Butcher.
Its kinda funny in that these retainers talk to themselves while they work.
While everyone else was busy doing Hunts for gear upgrades, I… well… I succumbed to vanity. My Grand Company, The Twin Adder has a set that I just really like, and so I opted for my first allied seal purchase to be the Elite Serpent’s Robe. Even though we have a lot more gear choices now because of vanity, and even though I do still love my cashmere robe of healing, I see it everywhere. Not really a fan of the “glowy” augmented version of it, and I just wanted something a bit different. I get tired of looking like everyone else all the time. Since my gear is already good enough for coil, I opted to go ahead and get the Elite Serpent’s robe first. Honestly if I waited, I probably wouldn’t get it, because once I do finally upgrade stuff, then there won’t be much of a desire to do hunts as it gets pretty crazy.
Here is my pretty Elite Serpent’s Robe!
I like it too, because I’ve always had a secret wish of having a robe like Kan-E-Senna’s and I do really love the Twin Adder, so it works for me. Its not totally like the Twin Adder’s Leader’s robe, but it is very detailed. I like the Twin Adder pin, and the embroidered parts, the leather and the fur. Its actually a pretty detailed piece. Plus it keeps me warm!
Not the most sensible choices I know… but the heart wants what it wants… lol
This is using the “Try On” feature, I do want to eventually get the circlet as well, and it will sort of satisfy my desire to look like a Padjal and be the total tree hugger that I am.
Originally the plan was to get these two items, and then upgrade gear, however I ended up seeing an upgraded Yagrush in game yesterday, and now I’m torn over which I want most. I may go ahead and upgrade the Yagrush, first then get the circlet, then go back to upgrading the weathered gear.
I feel like I can justify this option because I’m a healer. If I was main DD or Tank, I’d have to focus first on damage/accuracy, but my gear is already decent enough to get through the content I want to do, so I have a little more time to upgrade, plus to be quite honest, the upgrades I want the most aren’t from upgrading weathered gear… they are actual pieces from second coil.
Really wish I could spend more time actually doing Second Coil, but its just not really working out that way. Schedules are just busy with real life for people right now, which of course is fine and to be expected. Real Life always should trump game things.
On top of that Hunts seem to have people very distracted, and I don’t even see quite as many Coil groups being formed in Party Finder as their had once been. Even Rarer are the Ramuh EX parties. Certain content seems to be getting ignored a bit. I kinda feel like it might have been a mistake to release such high rewards from hunts.
I can’t really blame the players all that much, everyone has real life things going on and if they have to choose between spending their couple of hours doing hunts (as maddening as they get) and actually getting a gear upgrade VS. running Second Coil or Ramuh EX (even if they are lucky enough to be successful.. they may get nothing), its far more likely they’ll actually get to accomplish some sort of a gear upgrade if they do hunts. The logic is hard to argue with. Hunts don’t require premade groups and there is generally something up somewhere. Coil is harder, and requires patience to be willing work through issues and getting people up to speed, negotiating schedules, and finding members who are willing to actually focus or humble themselves enough to try and actually improve themselves or plain communicate in a way that best fits the entire team. Hunts you can do on the fly whenever and still “for sure” be able to upgrade your soldiery gear quite nicely.
My personal issue is for the stat set I’ve set as my goal, there are High Allagan Pieces I actually need to get to accomplish it. I don’t really like grinding hunts to upgrade things that when my full intention is to replace it as soon as I can. I’ve vanity’d most of my gear anyway, so the option of dying it isn’t even that much of a draw. Without any upgrades, I’m at ilvl98 & ilvl99 on my healers. My gear is good enough to accomplish coil wins. For me it has really been more of a case of being able to know that I’m good enough at my role to get the wins.
My worry over that has been relieved slightly, and I’m feeling a bit more confident now as I did end up getting a second win over T6 this weekend with a random party finder group. This time I healed for it, so now I know for sure I can do it and that makes me feel a lot better about it! I’ve got a win on bard and as a healer. When our regular group gets back from their various trips, I hope we take T6 out together so we can move on to T7, I really want the High Allagan Robe of Healing from there, and I’d love to get a win on each level at least once before they start nerfing it! I like to be able to win without the echo.
So.. since Second Coil isn’t as often of an occurrence I get to participate in lately.. I’ve joined the horde of people out doing Hunts. Hunts are something that can be enjoyable at times, but honestly often its more frustrating than pleasant the majority of the time. Not that its “bad content” its just that because the rewards are “so good”, then everyone spams it and tensions arise. Occasionally you get good groups (like below.. but look how many are DW members) who will patiently wait for others to participate.
And then you get other groups where people are standing there waiting, and other people run up and immediately start attacking even though there are so many people in the area and still shouting for invites. Its frustrating how impatient people are. Then there are other times when decent sized groups have been standing around for a good 5 minutes waiting for players to get there, and when people seem to have all trickled in and the arrival of more seems to have halted, they attack.
Only to have someone come out super late, almost a good 8 minutes after the group first started gathering in the first place and start shouting what jerks everyone is for not waiting for them. Luckily people getting vocal doesn’t happen all that much on our server.. least not in shout. I’m sure FC’s and LS’s get earfuls sometimes, but least its not always in shout. When it does.. it in English. I’m English, but its always seems to be the English speakers that get the angriest to actually shout, or feel they have to retaliate in some way because “they’ve been wronged”. Japanese seem to accept it and move on to the next one, and even go as far as to say thank you for the party invite, even when they totally missed out.
People just don’t seem to understand that sometimes while they might have been “just told” about the mark, that it doesn’t mean a group hasn’t been out there for awhile waiting and the info just got to them slowly. Even then its “Why didn’t you tell me sooner” being said in LS’s… its always “someone else’s” fault that they didn’t get it. People can only pass the information on so fast. Some groups wait, some don’t.. its all a gamble, and honesty isn’t the act of “hunting” in general a gamble anyway? You may find something… you may not.. it just random luck if you are in the right place at the right time. Sometimes you’ll get there in time.. and sometimes you won’t. If it makes you angry, then you either need to open your mind a bit and not get so caught up in it… or only do it in short spurts because it is a gamble.
Maybe after people get some of their things upgraded, the mass of people all trying to do it at the same time will slow down, and it will be more fun to participate in. Its the amount of people trying to do it all at once that is the real problem. Group participation is fun and good, but when 3/4 of the server is trying to all converge on a certain mob.. its not as enjoyable.
I kind of wish that SE would take some of the level B marks and turn them into a spawn-able set. Maybe add myth purchasable “hunting maps” kinda like the treasure maps/alexandrite maps. Maybe only allow players to hold 1 at a time and let them make parties that could go and actually spawn the level B marks as a party together. They could even throw a timer on it, and maybe you could only personally initiate one of those maps once a day. If you got 5 allied seals per map, got a group together and went out and did that, it might relieve some of the overflowing numbers of people trying to do the A & S hunts all at the same time. They’d get decent rewards for what they were doing, and it would be more enjoyable…. Just a thought…
OH! also as a last note, I ended up getting my third unidentified allagan tomestone from Syrcus Tower (CT2) so now I can go for the oils and the actual gear.
