Its been a crazy week, so I’ll try and recount all the goings on! Oct 20th brought us the All Saint’s Wake Event, which I actually thought was pretty cute. Sometimes the Holiday events are lackluster (I guess mostly out of the need to make it available to the majority of the playerbase despite levels. This one however I saw some real creativity in, especially with the Parade FATE in Ul’dah! Overall I enjoyed it and ran it on my Alt Characters as well.🙂
Here are some pictures I got during the event. ^^
Decorations were pretty cool, and they were absolutely everywhere around town and in the residential areas.
So detailed! The devs really put time and effort in to decorating this year!
Here is a few of us who were turned into the Sultana waiting for the Parade FATE to spawn.🙂
It got to the point where people would try pretty hard to get the NPC Costume they wanted. At one point there was so much magic glamor smoke, I couldn’t see anything around me lol. Unfortunately I didn’t get a screenshot of that, but here is an example of what it looked like.
There were some great NPC’s to be! Unfortunately I spent most of my time as a bat. When I did get one of the cooler ones, I’d take a picture. Haha
Minfilia (I brought my Anniversary Minion out for this one!)
My Favorite… Kan-E-Senna
Here is Professor Hojo (Raubahn) and Miki Azatori (Sultana) in costume ^^
The FATE Parade was a really fun idea.. I hope future holiday events are more like this one:
Ended up with my Witch Costume. Very cool thing I also noticed, SE was quick to allow you to put the gear in your armoire this time! Was so glad to see that. I like the Holiday gear, but I always kinda have inventory issues (of my own making – no fault of SE’s) so was nice to be able to put it safely away!
Next big thing that happened this weekend was Distant World hosted our Server-Wide Event
It turned out to be a lot of fun, with the Minion Raffle, Scavenger Hunt, Triva, Zombie Tag, Parade, and all out dance party! Thanks to all who came, and to all who helped!
Its things like this that help build our community, and I hope we get to do more in the future, as well as inspire other FC/LS’s to put on similar type events! We Raffled off the following Minions:
Hope everyone had fun!
Minion Raffle Winners were announced Via Mini’s Livesteam on Maintenance day!
That Day ended up being pretty cool, as shortly after the Carnival de Costa was over, We had a few old friends return to pay us a visit! Once such visitor (who I hope stays awhile ^^) was Arrietty! She was a regular in 1.0 (hers and mine character models were a bit similar in 1.0 so I always kinda thought of her as Katella’s little sister. Arrietty had been playing on another server a bit in 2.0 off and on, so it was a nice treat to get to see her ingame!
So in typical DW fashion, we couldn’t help but set up some fun screenshots
The night before patch I was able to run with Zoe Bell (another great member who is returning to the game after a bit of a hiatus) Get a few dungeons unlocked for her dungeon roulettes. I love Lost City of Amdapor, and hardly ever get to do it anymore, so was very happy to run it with her! This screenshot I got in the beginning, and had never seen the sun rise while in there. Thought it was pretty interesting!
Also before Patch, I worked on finishing up my Moogle Mail questline from 2.3! Here is that Halitali HM group! Was nice to have the devs work them into a quest.🙂
Finished up that weeks Hunt which was one of my favorites: The Monarch Ogrefly
Turned in some Primal EX Tokens I had laying around and bought a book for my summoner.. My Summoner now has a Facebook… oh..well.. a book with a face anyway. ^^
————-2.4 UPDATE / SOUL SEARCHING & SPOILERS MAY APPEAR BELOW —————
To be quite honest, I’m a player who needs goals to keep me moving forward, and it helps me enjoy any game I put time into. I had gotten a little frustrated towards the end of 2.3, because most of the goals I had set for myself involved Second Coil, and working to improve my gearset. The thing is, Life happens.. and schedules are crazy, people come and go, so I didn’t get to progress in that content or achieve really any of those goals I had set for myself. Towards the end of 2.3 I found myself often kinda grumpy and without direction in the game because of lockouts and things that seemed to loom over. Things and situations that were not allowing me to progress unless the stars aligned.
I don’t really want to solo that kind of content because I enjoy building that teamwork and working to strengthen each other in a set group. Its not about being “Elite”.. I don’t need to be “Elite” in a video game, but it is about the journey made in achieving goals together. I wasn’t actually enjoying my time as much as I should have at the end of 2.3. It was conflicting. I wanted to progress really super bad, but not at the expense of others I was doing content with. I couldn’t do that to people I cared about. Often I felt like I was wasting my time standing around waiting and afraid to start something else just in case we could get a group for a run. We’d get a static group, run it a couple times… make a little progress, then someone would leave the group for greener pastures, and so it just cycled over and over the entire three months …. constantly adding new and seeing existing leave.
That can get to you a bit. At times you feel abandoned.. but then reason steps in and you know that people pay for this game, so if certain aspects are important to their personal enjoyment, then they have to go.. its not really personal. Thow on top that sometimes those leaving are people that you do care about and really enjoy their friendship, and you sincerely want them to be successful.
Even then it can leave one feeling less than stellar about it, and can begin to make you feel like there must have been something wrong maybe with you personally, or that you “aren’t good enough” for it to keep happening. But logic rescues once again.. and you can know its really more just an indication that priorities and patience run different.. and that is ok.. its not personal. I had to be saved by my own logic a bit to much in the last patch, so I’m almost relieved to see it be replaced, and thankful for the chance to change directions.
SO… needless to say, Patch 2.4 was a very welcomed. It offers me a chance to make brand new goals, and hopefully I’ll take what I learned from the last patch (about myself) and not tie my main goals to things that I don’t have control over accomplishing if I want to stay true to myself. It is important for me to be able to help and do things with friends and FC members, and in the current lockout state of things.. rushing to get end content stuff doesn’t afford me that. Its one thing if you have a group dedicated to working as a team even through the times of struggle, and all patiently working to help each other get stronger, but if you don’t have that, its more frustrating then fun. If you are like me you become not only disappointed because it didn’t work out for your own goals, but also disappointed that it wasn’t more productive and enjoyable for your friends who actually did stick it out with you. I don’t feel right abandoning my friends just to progress and get gear that won’t matter in three months.. its just not worth it, and I can’t justify it to myself. I don’t like not being able to help them whenever I want… so this time around, while I still do very much want to participate in Coil, I’m only going to allow it to be a side project and not tie any real “need” for it to work out. It definitely will not the main goal for me this patch.
On the bright side, it does help a little this time around that the Poetic gear is so much prettier than the soldiery had been, and that is something I can count on accomplishing with what I choose to do. (I’m sorry but I really didn’t like any of the Soldiery designs all that much) Here is me trying on the very first thing I plan on purchasing with Poetics in a week.
Anyhow more about the 2.4 patch! It introduced my absolute favorite primal – Shiva! Saint Shiva even!
I was so glad to find that my suspicion of how they would present her panned out. I love her story so far.
The fight was great, and I can’t wait to see EX in the next couple of days once some others have unlocked it. It kept me on my toes, and there was a slight issue knowing where to go during one of the attacks because of dodging different marks on the ground as well as the ones circling in the sky.. A helpful hint though is to view the arena at that point from directly above your head. Riku and I did this fight together with a bunch of JP players, and we were the last two alive the first attempt which kinda felt good that we dodged so much. The second attempt we won, and it was pretty satisfying even though I ended up dying in the final 15 seconds.
Story line so far, I really like. Some have different opinions, but I actually really appreciate it. The moral this time around is one that really resounds with me. I keep noticing instances where the “status quo” is challenged.. what we’ve accepted may not actually be entirely correct. There is a whole chat bit that Iceheart talks about how people so often just “believe” what they are told without questioning or searching for truth behind it.
I love it when morals are hidden in things like games, movies, or shows.. where there are points when you are encouraged to really think about how you deal with things in all aspects of your life. The main title I walk around with ingame is “Seeker of Truth”, and I think personally it fits me best, because I’m always looking for these pearls of wisdom in unconventional sources, and when I find them it just makes me happy.
Even in real life I find myself often frustrated / amazed how some are so willing to fight without question, not taking the time to research beyond what they are given. Not willing to weigh both sides. Willing to be so vocal on things they have not invested any personal thought process in. Anyhow, I found some of the monologues from both Iceheart and the Isgardian to be laced with certain truths. I ended up actually really liking both their characters despite their positions or beliefs on some matters. I’m liking that the story isn’t simply “black and white”, because nothing even in real life tends to be that simple.
This female Roe character I actually really enjoy. I love her spirit, and its so humorous how she interacts with Urianger.
My favorite dungeon this patch hands down in Snowcloak! I love the music, I love the fights and If I have to spam any dungeon for the next three months earning Poetics tokens… It will be my pleasure for it to be this one.
It was super fun going into these totally blind. I did this dungeon quite a bit on patch day, both on my own and for others DW members working through their storyline.
Really had fun figuring out the gimmicks involved in this one. It changes dramatically the experience you have once you know what you are doing here and what you are looking for. Super fun figuring out though..
Fenfir! His fight was pretty enjoyable! Loved that they used “Lunar Cry”
More housing was a big thing this patch, and while I’m no where near getting one anytime soon, I was really happy for some of our members who had been working so hard to get theirs. One such member was Pico Man! Here is Pico’s House:
Here is an interesting little nugget that Shinra pointed out to me as I was unlocking Sastasha HM.. What a great callback! Kind of funny the things they had to say. Seems like they some even learned lessons that their counterparts missed.
Here is just a random picture I got of one of the new minions..(not mine.. just looks like it because of where I was standing.)
