So this week brought about the addition of Second Coil to the Duty Finder enabling players to queue up solo for this content. Between nerfs and echo, this content is now extremely PUG-able. Some are pretty upset about this.. but to be quite honest, I’m really not one of them.
Its kinda a breath of fresh air to me personally, because after the last few months of week after week having to try and re-create a full static over and over, while balancing schedules (because real life is a thing) and simply trying to find people who were willing to stick around long enough and try again has been pretty taxing to me. Almost to the point where I’m not sure I ever want to try and head up a static for any of the “newest” content ever again. More than willing to participate in a static, and willing to be someone who is willing to stand by that static.. but I’m not sure I want to have to feel responsible for the decisions that others make, and how it affects the people involved who are willing to stick it out… towards the end if I’m honest I was pretty sad, disappointed and frustrated, and I don’t want that. I want to enjoy myself. I love this game and the friends I’ve made here. I want to focus on enjoying that.. not necessarily being responsible for “making things happen” all the time. It gets exhausting.
To all the people who are upset over the changes… let me remind you to breathe. Change happens.. especially in an MMO, and especially if you are wanting that game to survive long term. New players that come in a lot of times will really just want to be able to “catch up” to their friends and also enjoy the struggles of newer/newest content the game has to offer. If they keep old content as hard, then unfortunately what would happen would be that it would become a roadblock to brand new players who maybe don’t have an existing large group of competent friends to drag them through things. They would spend all their time in queues for content that less and less people would want to participate in, and it would be very difficult for them to be able to gear up enough to catch up.. especially at the rate that gear ilvl seems to be climbing.
Second Coil is no longer the “latest and greatest”… Its time to come to terms with it, and move on. We can’t rest on our laurels right?.. Its time to move on and focus on taking on the current challenge.
Not to say I wouldn’t like the option to go back and do some of the older content in its original form. Honestly If ever asked, I do sort of wish they would change their practices and give us a month having the older content available in solo queue duty finder right off the bat after a newer patch hit. (Retire the “put it in Party Finder” step altogether) Let it be the same difficulty for that time period, and let people who don’t have statics, or who aren’t able to gather enough people for a run… give them a chance to see it in its original difficulty before adding the nerfs. Let them have a chance to see it and appreciate it before it changes. After that month passes, then go ahead and institute the nerfs.. I think it would be a better accepted balance.
I understand their overall goal though, and I’m realistic. The past is the past.. and we can never go back and have things always be like what we remember. I learned that from playing FFXI so long ago. Time marches on…
So onto Highlights for this week!
High Allagan Healing robe!
Ever since Second Coil came out, I had been really wanting this piece. Its beautiful, and actually hangs well on my character making her look a bit less like a pillsbury dough boy wearing a tent. A few weeks back people had been telling me that they hated T7, and that they probably wouldn’t ever go back if they could help it, and that made me kinda sad as I had never gotten the robe, so was thinking it might be just a pipe dream. I didn’t really need it anymore, because I had the healing poetics top, but I just really wanted it because of how pretty it is.
So on the first day that those turns got added to Duty Finder, I ran Turn 7 four times. The last few times, Pierce came with me, and since he already had those pieces, it allowed me to need on them should they drop, and on the last run we did that day both the healing robe and the healing choker dropped. I was so happy!
In all the months that I’d been doing second coil, early in the week with the static, and then later in the week with Party Finder groups and even though I had wins under my belt, I had never been lucky enough to get any drop. To have my very first loot drop be the item I wanted so very much was pretty awesome. Thanks Pierce for running them with me!!
Was invited to go check out Carbuncle Rubylight’s house the other day, and their basement shrine is pretty sweet. 🙂
Not really expecting to ever happen, but I showed Mini Ninja the plot I really like, and while we were there, we caught a great sunset! Someday I hope its “My View”.. but if so.. its a very long time from now…
