Layaway Get! (Zeromus EX & Endwalker Mount)

Today, first day of Spring 2024, anniversary of the birth of my youngest son, I ended up getting my “Layaway” mount! 100 tokens in hand, took me first to Radz-at-han to turn in for my mount from running Zeromus EX those minimal 50 times. Acquiring this long awaited one, gave me access to pick up my final Endwalker Primal completion mount, so off I went to Old Sharlayan to speak with Singingway.

After some consulting with Singingway, and the Wandering Minstrel, I received my final primal mount from Endwalker!

Annoyed….

Annoying. Are people really this clueless to this game cycle still? We’re ending #6 now. Endwalker was great, post EW is fine for the phase it is – ending what was and moving the story on. People really forget how this goes? Its amazing how people feel like they want to complain about EVERYTHING and just decide everything is/was awful when a few months back even people were singing praises often with it being placed 1st or 2nd in people’s reported hierarchy’s of favorite expansions. Its annoying how fickle we become, and how our stories change just because someone else wants to complain.

Devils Advocate – I guess maybe because so many jumped onboard later, they don’t understand the flow because they worked through 3 expansions in one go and didn’t experience all of the expansions in real time. Still, as someone who had…. its rather annoying to listen to. The game is not supposed to be your life, just a fun hobby.

You’re lonely? and that is SE’s fault because they didn’t provide enough diverse content to keep your friends logged in 100% of the time so they are still available to you?

This is the feeling I get from watching some of these “Influencers” videos right now. Maybe you should instead of relying on the game to gather people for you…. maybe you should reach out to people yourself? Actually build real friendships and connections with people, and invest a little more in others??

Its super easy when new expansions come out, everyone is excited, everyone has new goals, there is new story to experience, new places to explore. Its simple to get people together and feel “social” however you have to understand that in reality the game is doing a good chunk of the work for you.

You complaining in essence that you are lonely now because the game isn’t good enough so enough people aren’t logged in constantly, I’m sorry but all that means is that your social crutch has been used up. So now it falls to you to put any effort outside of the game to maintain those “friendships”. In reality if you aren’t willing, then they weren’t actual friendships in the first place.

An “Influencers” reported experience is not everyone’s experience (honestly sometimes isn’t even their own). You’ve got to understand that their whole thing has a monetary end, and based on how creative they are with what situations they put together to film, that it matters more to them how many “clicks” and “views” they get. Psychologically speaking, negatives get them more attention. When they are having time manufacturing interesting content, they will either move on or lay blame to get those views. Honestly blaming the game that you claim to love… is the easy way out. Reality is that people pay attention more to negatives than positives. Think of the news right? There is an actual reason for the “magic ratio”, where it takes more positive experiences to offset any one negative one. Attention is attention, lets be real.

While people don’t like to admit it, especially in this day and age, people get a bit of an adrenaline hit from being inflamed. From becoming mad or being unhappy at something or with someone. While we like to blame society for using this tactic to influence us, or make money off of us, at some point we should be thinking a little more about why we personally are getting so charged so easily? Why we are allowing this source of manipulation to occur in ourselves. (This is a bit off topic – but I hope you get the point of what I’m trying to say)

I say all of this mostly as both someone who has played in real-time from the beginning, who has seen these “The game is dying”, “this expansion was awful” videos between each expansion…. and yet still observed all the hype and excitement in others (and myself) when the next one came out.

I’ve seen people focus a little to much on the game and not keep it as what it is, and become burnt, because they themselves aren’t being reasonable and treating the game as it should be. I’ve seen people use the game in ways that are unrealistic.

I’ve made some amazing friends in game, that we reach out to each other outside of the game quite often, ones that I consider to be real friends, and family, alternatively, I’ve also had some “friends” in game that ended up just being “topical acquaintances” (which is honestly fine too, as long as you aren’t lying to yourself about those relationships).

What I’m saying I guess… is that I’m getting old… lol… I’ve seen a bit in this community now.
I just hope at some point, people will dig through their own experiences a bit more, and be a bit more realistic about what they see. This game isn’t meant to do some needed things for you. If you are unhappy… there could be a bit more to that than “They aren’t providing me enough”…. it may be honestly that we aren’t doing enough on our own.

Bluemage Hotbar Tips

You get 5 Bluemage Presets that now swap out both spells equipped AND HOTBARS removing the need to use hotbar copy commands from old classjobs, or reset up hotbars all the time. They did this awhile back, but I’ve honestly not messed with it since the last time there had been a Bluemage update.

I find however that sometimes in the heat of things, I sometimes accidentally save over my presets when I’m trying to just load them and It is really frustrating, so I’ve designed a few macros to help me avoid making that mistake, plus it makes switching presets quicker.

Display Name Settings

Wasn’t sure if I was going to like this, as I like to keep things pretty simple, but actually this isn’t bad!
Will be nice when on Blue mage you are needing to steal someone’s essence! lol. Might also help me keep track of other healer position in EX fights. 🙂

Update: The “Apply colors according to role” is surprisingly helpful, alleviating the need for players to be tagged to be noticed during higher end fights! You can even adjust the colors the party member’s names take, which was nice because the dps red by default was a little to close to the monsters we were fighting, but once I adjusted their color to purple instead, it was pretty nice!

Remembering my friend, Merikosum

“The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day… but you are not here to see it.” ~ Elidibus

Yesterday I received some news that broke my heart. Our Dear friend Merikosum Neaman (Alex) passed away on Jan 12th of pancreatic cancer. At the end of last year, Merik had been in pain for a few months. At one point he had some biopsy’s done and told me he wanted to pull a few people together to tell about it because it had came back as cancerous, though they didn’t yet know what kind. For two months it stayed in that state of flux not quite knowing what kind, and him having more tests, more pain, and more waiting.

For the last 10+ years Merik had become such a great friend and big brother to me. Reliably just always there. A pillar of stability. Always watching over us and enjoying time with us. Always willing to lend a hand, or an ear, and somehow able to offer the kindest, most fair and compassionate advice. Willing to troubleshoot computer issues, or talk the pros and cons of computer components. He was that friend that you could sit in chat with forever, either chatting up some topic and laughing, or sitting in complete silence, and it didn’t matter. It was never uncomfortable.

We had plans to meet up last spring with a few of us, but that had been squashed by the corona virus pandemic. I will forever regret not getting to meet him in person.

He had been one of the first people I met when Blindrage and I joined Distant World LS so many years ago now. At the time we both played Bard, and so had that in common. I remember when we both finally ended up finally getting the Moogle Bow each – back when that was a really cool thing in 1.0, and when it wasn’t as common or easy occurrence. We went and took a picture together with both our bows. So many memories in that 1.0 era I will cherish. We would both offer another friend who had a YouTube channel, help with some of his productions. Those times were filled with fun and laughs.

Then the downtime came between 1.0 and 2.0, and collectively with other members of Distant World, we played other games together, from Rift, to WoW, to Minecraft, Guild Wars, and so many others. We built Uldah in Minecraft on Merik’s server that he hosted for us. It was great. We as a group even built a Theme park world and built out some pretty amazing things that I’m sure are pictured on this blog somewhere.

We were all so excited for the launch of ARR. When it came out, Merik and I were both part of the same static that ran some Binding Coil of Bahamut… back when doing mechanics was actually a requirement. He occasionally stream some of it on his youtube channel. We would also help other FC members try out that content as well. Merik was always up to humor me, when I would get an idea for a video that wanted to make whenever I was inspired to do so. Sometimes at the end of the videos, I would add some funny bits that happened while we were filming. This here, when we were “caroling” was one of my favorites with Merik.

There is so much to mention, but this is getting hard with the tears not wanting to stop now. I realize this post doesn’t properly reflect the decade of memories that I will cherish forever. Merik, thanks for becoming my dear friend, big brother and mentor. Thank you for always looking out for all the members of Distant World. Thanks for stepping up and always keeping the peace so gracefully in promoting people to be thoughtful of others with both their words and behaviors. Thanks for your kindness, your friendship, your reliability and your plain good hearted nature. I will miss your sighs at bad jokes, your time outs for cooking your weekly steak dinner to enjoy! I’ll miss all the laughs and all the excitement of new content. I’m so glad that you got to finish Endwalker with us, and was able to finish the story we all started so very long ago.

Merik – You were truly one of my favorite people, and from the sounds of all the comments and pictures and memories shared yesterday in Distant World when we found out, you made an impact on most everyone you met. I just really wish that you could have known the extent how loved you were by everyone, and how your mere presence impacted them. You’ve always had my admiration. Thank you so much for being part of our experience. Thank you for your friendship, and all the valuable things you taught me. It will forever be appreciated. I will sorely miss you.

FFXIV 1.0 “Oil Paintings”

Was looking at some old pictures and a FC member of mine had taken some of my old screenshots years ago and had some program that turned them into Oil Paintings. I’d totally forgot about them until I found them again just today.

Rubicante EX Notes

This fight doesn’t feel tough, it feels honestly less punishing then Barbaricca EX, HOWEVER – the struggle comes in that this time around the community is behaving slightly different? Generally it seems like the JP community will pick one strategy for Duty/Raid Finder and stick with it, so you are pretty easily able to figure it out after running it a few times to see what they are wanting to happen using Duty Finder.

This time however… It seems there are two common strategies being used. The one I give information on in here seems to be referred to as “Game 8” strategy. (The other – I don’t have any sort of handle on — is called “FFO” – so I’ve started avoiding those parties when I get the choice in Party Finder because my translation abilities aren’t good enough yet to figure out what and why things are different, but something really is and things go bad fast.

So – Here are my notes on what I’ve figured out from the “Game 8” version

• Inferno = Raid wide AoE
• Ordeal of Purgation – circles puzzle
  • Option: Blue Triangle = Cone Attack
  • Option: Orange Box = Half Arena Cleve
    • Puzzle #1 – Both Markers – 1 line = adjust for activated marker

Fixing your FFXIV portrait

I’d looked this up because I’d spent time making a portrait, only for it to be reverted back to a default portrait in all my duty instances. Because it wasn’t extremely clear, I thought I’d give some slightly more complete directions than what I’d quickly found on the topic. (Sorry didn’t get to spend much time on this lol, so its not as nice as it should look, but will give you the gist!)

IF your image defaults back when you enter an instance, you’ll see a message flash across your screen when you enter an instance, and notice your picture used is a system default.

To Fix This

• Open your Character Menu
• Select “Portraits”

• Select the job you want to fix the portrait for
• Click the “Edit”

• Optional: Make desired “Design” changes on that tab
• Click the “Character” Tab
• Optional: Make desired “Character” changes on that tab
• Click “Save”

Congratulations! The next time you go in an instance, it should show your desired portrait for that job!

You’ll notice that the Exclamation mark is now gone from the listing!
