English Trailer! Yay!
FFXIII
As I suspected, I see that all the FFXIII-2 trailers that I saw yesterday, including the ones that were in my last post have been duly removed.
Have no fear if you missed out though. IGN Reports say that Square Enix has said they will be posting the HD version of the trailer on the game’s newly made website on the 20th:

Hopefully they will create an English version too soon.. ^^
Edit: I checked this morning and the trailer is now live on their site. Still Japanese translation only, but hopefully we’ll get one soon too. ~ Katella 1/20/11
I realize that the consensus for FFXIII seems to be either you liked it our you just plain didn’t. Me, I’m a sucker for a good story and great music, so I actually really enjoyed it. My only real problem with FFXIII was that I was actually a little disappointed when I finished the story-line. Not because I didn’t like the story, although I had wished a few things had turned out slightly different. (I will give no Spoilers here, but will just say that I wish things would have ended a little different for a couple of the characters.)
I thought the story was great. It was an intriguing story, so much in fact that at the end, it was hard for me to keep playing, even though I now had this whole world to explore at my leisure. I should have been pumped, but what turned out happening was that because I no longer had the story propelling me forward, the desire dissipated. I guess realistically I knew that my fascination was never for the grind, or for bragging rights. My interest was in the games characters. Saying it as lightly as I can, it was just kind of awkward calling a few of them back into my party group once I knew the ending… lol. I’m odd, I know.
All of this trip down memory lane for me, is in response to this:
On facebook, I’m a fan of a few pages, and one of playstation pages leaked that the North American Release of FFXIII-2 will happen this next winter. (Winter 2011 I believe).
I watched the Japanese trailer found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfGogfi2Hbk
or try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgOKJ5Cjq70
(Hopefully one of those is still there and not pulled down, as all seem to be posted by an individuals and not SE).
I’m intrigued, and very interested in playing this game. I like the prospect of a returning Lightning, and would definitely like to see if anything in the next one expands on what happened at the end of the first one. I want to know what happened to my team members. 🙂 I would love to see some of the same characters appear throughout this story, but I think even if it ends up being Lightning’s story, that could be ok as well as her and Vanille were my favorites….. I know, I know…. 🙂
Played FFXIII last night for a little bit while hubby was watching a show on the computer. I found the cactar for the first, and second, and third time.. lol 🙂 Its pretty cute.
Logged into FFXI for about 45 minutes, farmed alone in Dem this time. Very little issues again. Got 1 more recollection of pain, so one or two more and Kauri, I, and plus I’m planning on sending one to Kinkykitty , then we will all have both animas we need. Could have probably finished it out had I stayed longer, but was tired on multiple levels. I reached level 33 on Dancer last night as well.
Here are some pictures as promised though..
First one is Hexa strike.. I just love that weapon skill.. LOL!
Here is Katella in the Dinner Jacket & Hose, kinda cute, really accentuates the disproportion of the taru though.. lol 🙂
Found a Pixie in Valkrum Dunes.. which seemed odd…
Holla farming
Who knew Taru’s could jump so high?
Tremor Ram on the way to Dem last night
The emptyness of Dem… literally!
Found a link for an english translation of some back stories inspired by FFXIII
Thought I’d share 🙂 I haven’t them all yet, but thought I’d not it for later reading.

Enjoy!!
This weekend I completed the FFXIII storyline. Love this game, and kind of sad that I’m done with the storyline part of it. I was worried that I wouldn’t have the drive to go back and do the missions, but that is where I am now. Ran into an old friend of ours, and they are currently working on the missions. Told me about this one where you are fighting something and a tonberry comes out of no where and starts fighting your adversary…. except then it turns on you.. lol! Sounds exciting, so I’m going to have to check it out. Just realized I hadn’t run into any cactar’s yet either, or a chocobo, so really there are a lot of things still there for exploring!
The missions will be good to keep me entertained until FFXIV comes out.
RE: FFXIV – I watched a video of someone crafting in FFXIV alpha this morning.. Very intriguing, looks like far more fun than sitting in the corner molding a ball of light into something.. hehe.
Messed around with drawing Katella too this weekend, came out kinda cute 🙂
I really don’t have anything to say.. just the same old stuff.
#1 I am still really enjoying FFXIII, there isn’t much about it that I don’t love. My only real complaint is that I wish I could take screen shots during game.. but that is a small quibble and definitely am still enamored. I am thankful for its deterrent while I impatiently wait for FFXIV to come out.
#2 Still psyched and impatiently waiting for FFXIV, I imagine I’ll be a Lalafell Conjurer from Gridania, or Limsa Lominsa.. I’m kind of torn. Gridania seems to be a place of magic lovers, but silly sentiment pulls me a little towards Limsa Lominsa because on a screenshot posted in an article on http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=22042 It shows a little red emblem to the left of where it says Limsa Lominsa that reminds me a bit of San d’Oria’s emblem (my Vana’diel home). Still, most likely will be Gridania, but we’ll see. If you read that article, they also talk about selecting a Guardian Deity which is kind of intriguing. Mostly, I just can’t wait, even though my pocket book probably is happy enough to wait a bit longer before having to pay a subscription again… aw.. but it will be worth it I think! 🙂 I was joking with Blindrage yesterday about taking a personal day the day FFXIV comes out, in order to create my new avatar… lol!
#3. FFXI… ah.. Vana’diel. I love you forever but sadly, I think I’m kind of done for good this time. With all the new information that has been released, I’m completely overwhelmed. The level cap increase, and just the memories, I’m not sure I could do it. Seriously if it took me 3 years to get to 74 even, then there is no way I’ll ever make 99 even with one job. The few friends I have left are now spread among servers and now so far advanced. It is not fun having to drag people back through time consuming material that they’ve already finished. I’m too far behind and don’t have the drive to spend so much time in order to catch up. There a looming feeling that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it as much anymore. I played for friends, but many of my friends have moved on.. and even passed on.. 😦 I will always cherish my time there, but I’m not sure I can rationalize going back at this point. In a rut and realizing that I think the best times I had there are now behind me. I should just appreciate and cherish, instead of trying to replicate those memories…
In the walk through book I bought for this game, I couldn’t get their suggestions to work, and died multiple times trying. I found that I got hurt worse by following their directions, and summoning Odin only caused problems. My husband suggested creating another paradigm. In taking that advice, I found what I think is a better way that lets you take less damage, and made the fight go what I thought was a lot quicker. I thought I’d share our findings.
But first~
Pre-boss fight advice:
* Use the bridge areas to level all three jobs of your three main characters to level 3. This is helpful not only in providing further skills, but the HP bonuses added are almost essential.
* The Gold Bangle you find in one of the treasure sphere’s in this area should go to Hope to increase his HP.
Fighting Barthandelus:
Chars I used: Lightning, Hope, Fang
Paradigms used:
Bully – Com, Syn, Sab
Relentless Assault – Rav, Rav, Com
Tireless Charge – Com, Med, Com
Alternates Paradigms that I had / but didn’t use at all
Diversity – Rav, Med, Com (I didn’t end up using this at all, but good to have)
Hero’s Charge – Med, Syn, Com (I didn’t end up using this at all, but good to have)
Combat Clinic – Med, Med, Sen (I didn’t end up using this at all, but good to have)
Actual Fight:
*Start the fight with Bully, enabling Hope to get some party buffs out, and Fang to Debuff Barthandelus (hopefully slow, curse and some others). If you take too much damage switch to Tireless charge until is full or near full, then back to Bully if you weren’t able to get your buffs/debuffs cast.
* Use a Librascope to reveal Barthandelus’s 4 individual armor pieces and as well as his own weaknesses.
* Attack his armor first rather than attacking Barthandelus. (Left Pauldron, Left Ailette, Right Pauldron, Right Ailette) These need to be destroyed so that Barthandelus will be more susceptible to damage and debuffs.
* Switch between Relentless Assault & Tireless Charge. Tireless Charge will be anytime you need healing. If buffs wear, you can supplement with an occasional switch to Bully to re-apply.
* Once armor is destroyed, Switch to Bully to debuff Barthandelus, as always switch to Tireless Charge if healing is needed.
* After the initial stagger, Barthandelus will start using a powerful ability called Destructo. Destructo is very strong and can easily quickly wipe out your whole party. This assault is preceded by a notification and a”power up” period that lasts approximately 25 seconds. You can sometimes half-interrupt, and prolong this “power-up” session by doing enough damage to him. Use Tireless Charge to have Hope do any needed healing during this time, while Lightning & Fang continue to beat on Barthandelus. As soon as you are full, switch to Relentless Assault. The secret is that the more damage you do to him during this “Power up” period, the less damage you will take from his Destructo ability. Even if buffs happen to wear at the wrong time, and if you’ve done enough damage, it won’t be as devastating.
* Rinse lather repeat between Relentless Assault and Tireless Charge until you take him out.
Doing it the way I outlined above, I never had to summon Odin (who is more trouble than help in this fight… no offense), and we defeated him long before he ever decided to cast doom on Lightning/team leader.
~ side note: The book instructs you to switch to Hero’s Charge and manually heal everyone up to full during that “power up” period to prepare for Destructo. If you do that, you will be left in low yellow and red health bars, that is if the Destructo ability doesn’t wipe you out. You then have to take added time to heal back up, making it take even longer. After some point in time, Barthandelus will actually cast “doom” on you. The book says you still have time, and if you need to, summon Odin. (This is a bad idea, When Odin comes your other party members are not available to cure or cause damage and Odin spends some time in his shield mode not causing enough damage, plus if Odin leaves, your doom status returns.)
So enjoy…. Hope this helps!
I kind of enjoy that fight now using the tactics I outlined.
